Microsoft moves Viva from pure employee portal to job support platform starting with sales – TechCrunch

When Microsoft launched Viva last year, it designed the platform as an employee portal where you can go to find out about the parental leave policy or other internal communications aimed more generally at workplace policies and culture. the company. But it looks like Microsoft has broader ambitions for Viva than just providing important employee information found in the typical employee intranet. Today he announced the first of what could be several supported jobs within Viva, starting with sales.

Emily He, corporate vice president of line-of-business applications at Microsoft, says this announcement is something that gathers information in a way for specific jobs that she’s been hearing about as a kind of employee holy grail for years. years in business and jobs, and that was one of the reasons she was drawn to Microsoft.

“Viva Sales in my mind really represents a new way of working by breaking down data silos and breaking down experience silos,” she told TechCrunch.

She said one thing she’s learned from working with salespeople is that they have too many tools and need a way to extract meaningful insights from the tools they use for sales. present more centrally. “They really want a more streamlined experience. So Viva Sales lets a salesperson use the tools they already love and use every day, including your email system like Outlook, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, as well as Teams,” she said.

The tool is based on Office 365 and adapted to Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM. By tagging a customer’s name or contact, Viva Sales can automatically pull documents, spreadsheets, presentations, emails, and other media into the CRM tool, all organized under the tag, dramatically reducing the amount of manual data entry required.

“Sellers spend a lot of time manually entering account information or forecast data. So this eliminates [much of the] manual data entry. But more importantly, it now generates a more holistic view of the customer,” he told me.

With all this data stored in one place, it means customers can use it to feed machine learning models on how to improve sales. “You can use artificial intelligence and machine learning to come up with recommendations for sellers and deliver those recommendations to sellers wherever they are, whether they’re writing their emails or in virtual meetings,” he said. she declared.

While it appears to be Microsoft-centric, it will also support Salesforce CRM, and it says they may add support for additional tools over time based on customer demand. Additionally, the company plans to add more job types to Viva over time.

The end game here seems to be to expand the employee communication portal to include not only company documents that are useful to employees, but also tools to do their specific job. She says they’re doing it because they’ve heard of employees asking for this kind of help from the same portal.

It is worth mentioning that Viva Sales will be offered for free to Microsoft Dynamic 365 customers, but when accessing third-party data like Salesforce usage, you will be charged for using the tool.

Viva Sales will be available for public preview in July and is scheduled for the GA in the fall. For now, the only other CRM integration available besides Dynamics 365 will be Salesforce.
