The College of Charleston family continues to grow with the addition of these new staff members! Whether they’re returning to the College after some time away or working remotely, they’re excited to apply their expertise and share their interests – and we’re thrilled to have them!

Shannon Bassett

Background: In May 2022, I graduated from the Charleston School of Law. Before going to law school, I worked in K-12 education for over 10 years as a high school and college English teacher and as the coordinator of the literacy teaching.

Interests: I am a mother of three wonderful children and a lot of my free time revolves around their activities. If there is time left, I like to use it to draw and paint.

Looking forward: As a native of Charleston and alumnus of the College, I may be biased, but I love the people here and the beauty of the campus.

Latia Dorset

Background: I’m from upstate New York; however, most of my family is from South Carolina. Prior to the College of Charleston, I worked in a variety of roles related to education, social services, and career exploration/preparation with people from diverse backgrounds. I am returning to the College of Charleston REACH program as Senior Support Coordinator because of its mission, values, outstanding students, and wonderful staff! It’s great to be back. I know where I belong!

Interests: I love, I love, I love to dance. Anything related to Zumba and yoga, I’m totally here for it! Additionally, I enjoy helping out in the community, planting, classic movies, and more.

Looking forward: I truly look forward to working in a student-focused community where growing minds are continually supported, challenged, uplifted and encouraged.

Maggie Jordan

Background: I am originally from Myrtle Beach, SC, and moved to Charleston in 2008 to attend the College of Charleston. After graduating with degrees in Anthropology and Art History in 2012, I began my career working for local non-profit arts organizations and local municipal government, as well as exhibit design and independent artistic consultant. Prior to joining the Halsey Institute, I worked as the Visual Arts Coordinator for the City of North Charleston’s Department of Cultural Arts and as the Acting Executive Director at the Redux Contemporary Art Center.

Interests: My hobbies are travelling, going to museums, reading, listening to true crime and history podcasts, and watching movies. I recently took up embroidery. In my spare time, I like to dive into random research projects and hang out with my friends and my husband, Gavin, and our cat, Olive.

Looking forward: I appreciate the energy and the environment of the College, as well as the experience of working with students and professors. I attended college and was a former CofC employee, so it’s special to continue to make memories on campus.

Megan Liberty

Background: With a diverse background in sports management, non-profit administration, higher education and IT, I was most recently a consultant at a local technology consulting firm supporting government and commercial projects. Originally from Kentucky, I attended college and earned my BA in Communications (’07) and MPA (’16).

Interests: You can meet me at concerts, sporting events, at the beach, at yoga, or with a cup of tea and a good book. I also like to experiment with calligraphy, stationery and postal letters.

Looking forward: I look forward to investing again in an institution that was integral to my own educational journey and career and to serving the campus community through our projects!

Kelsi Schagunn

Background: I’m originally from Montana. I earned my Masters in International Studies at American University in Washington, DC, where I also worked in higher education for five years. I then taught English to primary school students in Galicia, Spain for two years. I recently joined the College of Charleston Center for International Education after working in communications at the MUSC Center for Global Health for the past few years.

Interests: I like hiking and being in nature. I also like to travel and discover new places!

Looking forward: I’m excited to learn about all the study abroad options available to College of Charleston students.

Background: I’m from Mount Pleasant, SC, and graduated from Queens University, with a double major in communications and Spanish with a concentration in strategic and organizational communications. During my time there, I worked as a residential assistant, so I think this position at CofC is a great choice!

Interests: I’m a foodie and love trying new foods and places to eat. I also love being outdoors, whether at the beach or in the mountains.

Looking forward: I look forward to making meaningful connections at CofC!

Jacob Stamper

Background: I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I grew up raising thoroughbred racehorses, chickens and buffaloes. I moved to Charleston in 2020, when I joined the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office in pursuit of a career in law enforcement.

Interests: Some of my hobbies are catching new movies, hanging out with the friends I’ve made here, meeting new people, and going to open mics, concert halls, and art shows. ‘art. I enjoy reading poetry as well as writing poems and songs. I often walk my dog ​​downtown to admire the architecture and sights of the city.

Looking forward: I am thrilled to become a member of the College and Charleston community. I look forward to ensuring the safety of College students, faculty, staff and guests.

Background: I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. In 2019, I graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Psychology. For the past three years, I have served as the admissions coordinator at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

Interests: I love being near water, whether it’s the beach or the lake – I love be on the water! I love reading, cooking and spending time with my friends, family and dog!

Looking forward: I love CofC’s location in downtown Charleston. I have been visiting Charleston for eight years, several times a year, so being able to live here is truly a dream come true!

Interests: The most important things in my life are my wife, Abby, and my daughter, Kate. My hobbies include woodworking, video games and skydiving.

Looking forward: Work with new technologies to help support students.
